Haves and Have-Nots
During the time I was collecting, from left to right, the images that I would later stitch together into this composite panorama, Sunshine started that coin-operated claw game machine and she won that Cookie Monster. Her first coin, her first try. It took about twelve seconds, I guess. The original concept of this picture was more boring then: it had only the one player image to the left. When she won, I went back and re-captured the image with her holding her prize, a reframing that resulted in the final product being narrower (since there is no scientific way I could correctly recapture one element out of sequence without the tripod I do not own). Anyway, I didn't notice the kid until even later when I was stitching. So while I would love to take credit for the wily political compression I've turned out here, I only really get credit for the title. Sunshine is the claw master, and that kid accidentally makes the picture. Brighton Beach Boardwalk, Coney Island. A Saturday.
Cookie Monster Trap
How do you get a monster to come out from hiding during the day? Well, if it is a Cookie Monster, just figure out where he has been eating and camp out while crinkling a Chips Ahoy (they like them) bag. Eventually, he'll come out...
For this shoot I didn't have any cookies (damn cookie monster ate them all) so I improvised with cooking use chocolate chips and Quaker Granola bar crumbs. And I can't take total credit - was inspired by another photo I saw on Flickr the other day.
